‘Generation’ Bothy On Site – July ’14

Posted July 25th, 2014 by Architect with No Comments

We’re delighted to see the building of our artists-in-residence bothy go up in the grounds of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art this week. The result of a collaboration with The Bothy Project, the bothy is eventually to be dismantled and rebuilt in the North of Scotland in a more permanent form to provide live/work accommodation for visiting artists.  This temporary version is to serve as a multi-purpose pavilion  for the ‘Generation’ exhibition over the next few months.  As such we’ve treated its temporary cladding in a much lighter, ethereal form, exposing the finely crafted solid Douglas Fir structure.

Iain has been working on a cross disciplinary arts project involving the design and build of a rural studio in the Cairngorms. Initially built at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshops before being transported and completed on site, Bothy 001 is a prototype for a series of Live/work studios throughout Scotland, primarily aimed at providing small scale art residency spaces in diverse locations around Scotland. Two more structures are in the early design stages so watch this space!
